Blowover?

The title is a bit vague, I know, but I'm not entirely sure what the term means. From what I understand, it is simply going over the existing paint with the same colour to spruce it up a bit. Would that be accurate?

The main point of this is, I am looking at going over my car with the same colour, since there are numerous chips and scratches, especially round the door handles. Looks like one of the previous owners opened the door with the keys in their hand a lot. But I like the colour (Dragon Green), and don't want to get into doing engine bays and door jams.

I can't afford a total respray, but have got access to a booth and spray gun, and the help of a professional. I want to do as much of the work myself as possible, mostly to help keep the feeling that it is my work that has made it the way it is (and keep the cost down).

There are a few patches that need prep, like filling a couple of dents and deeper scratches, and want to check that it would be okay to just do the filling, quick undercoat from a rattler (if needed) and then go over the top with the gun.

I am looking at all panels, bonnet and roof, as well as both bumpers. The boot looks okay, but may well do it if there is any paint left over, just for the match. It's a 5 door Mk3, Dragon green with a sunroof. Wanted to get an idea of how much paint I need, roughly how long I should allow to do the spraying, and then how long to dry before I can start driving it again. Also, if anyone knows of a good place to get the paint in North Devon preferably (if I don't go through my professional to save a few extra pennies).

Much thanks.
