Squeak
« on: 20 May 2010, 11:54 »
I don't think I'm the only person who's suffered this, but, my story.

Last year, new water pump and cambelt kit. Ever since, there's been a squeak from under the bonnet for around 10 mins when the engine is cold. Was told that this may be because the old drivebelt was reused. A little bit of belt dressing made little difference only whilst it was being applied.

Last night, fitted new belt. Still squeaks, not as bad though, but still a squeak!

Any ideas?

aux belt tensioner, and also worth checking the lhs engine mount is done up tight because that gets moved around during the belt change

Yes I can check the tensioner and perhaps chamge it. The engine mount won't be the problem as after 10 mins when it's warm it stops and it does it at idle or driving and goes with some engine revs, so it's not linked with the engine moving under load.

Did it only do it for about 10 mins and never when hot? You sure you mean camblet or do you mean drivebelt? A cambelt kit was changed with the waterpump last year.

yea only bout ten mins when its cold, like first thing in a morning or late afternoon if ive been at work etc etc..

yea definately cam belt matey i changed the alternator belt first process of elimination..

did you change the cambelt "kit" yourself or pay someone else to do it? as a cambelt on its own is half the price of the kit if u get my drift... charge for a kit and only buy a belt.....

did they put the old pulleys and belt in a box in your car so you knew they had been changed?? This is standard practise in most good garages...

Cambelt cover off, squeak stopped

No sign of rubbing on the inside of the cover, no sign of anything on the cambelt or any pulleys.

So cover back on and it's still quiet
