Does this happen to anyone else's GTI ?
« on: 05 June 2010, 15:49 »
Hi All

Had my GTI since March and still love every drive. There is one thing I've noticed ever since day one which seems a little odd though..

When I'm in first gear going slowly- such as trying to parallel park for example- the revs seem to race a bit as though it's going into some kind of anti-stall mode but there are definately enough revs to keep it from stalling. Makes it sound like I'm trying to show off by blipping the throttle which can get a bit annoying..

Has anyone else noticed this ?

Only other thing I would like is a bit more ooomph as the gears are quite long but am a bit worried about warranty issues so am chickening out at this stage

Answer to (1) - Mine does not. Is yours a DSG gerbox? Do you have park assist?
Answer to (2) - I felt the same initially, and suddenly the car is opening up beautifully. Getting faster and faster. I've done 1550 miles so far.

I thought it shouldn't re the revs so will probably book her in to see what VW make of it. Thanks for confirminng what I thought though

I've done over 3k in mine and still feel the same way re the power. Perhaps I haven't been giving her enough stick

Do the Revs always rise when stationary or just when parking?

I'm sure someone on here rejected their car because of the revs doing something similar.

They only seem to do it when the car is moving very slowly. I haven't noticed it in any other gear other than first though. It doesn't make the car undriveable but have never noticed it in anything else I've driven before though.

Mine does not do this, it does the opposite it often tries to stall on me. As it seems to have a slight delay on my throttle input and i have a bit of problem doing smooth pull aways sometimes. Only other odd thing with the revs is a few times when i have started it the revs raced to around 4K for a second. Sorry im no help but thought i would say mine does not do this as ours were built at a similar time.

PS. Does it still happen if you have the AC off?

Yeah, mate it happens when the AC is off. Actually now you mention it, sometimes the revs die on mine when I'm pulling away as well.. good grief it makes it sound like my car's totally undriveable doesn't it but it's not as bad as that.

I've been meaning for ages to get the car to VW to look at the DRLs so will mention this as well when I get around to doing it. Just wanted to gauge opinion as to whether this was a common thing or not.

How's things with your car, Snoopy ?

...Apart from the odd bit when it trys to stall or does stall.
...Still got to go and have the paint edges looked at. (just cannot get time off work)
...I have quite a few rattles and creaks now. (dash sides, passanger door, rear passenger side somewere, rear hatch creak, sunroof tick.)
...But apart from that its started loosening up quite nicley and due to the warm weather and having the sunroof open i cannot hear the rattles   im enjoying the drive more now.

On Thursday i was fighting my way through city traffic due to a road closure i had to go a different way home and i met a rising blue  scirocco R head on at a set of traffic lights as we were both in the right hand lanes, was quite an interesting look we gave each other facing each other so close in the middle of the road lol,  Then on firday i was followed by a new Leon cupra and after these two i though to myslef i made the right choice both in car and colour.

Definitely in car, colour a matter of personal taste. But I do love your blue very, very much I must admit!
