About the conversion, its a nightmare

!!!!
The easiest bit is actual swapping of the engine.
I bought a 86 16v gti as a complete working car so had everything. With both engines removed it was easy to spot that the mk2 engine and box would fit no worries with the refitting of the mk1 mounts to it, simple bolt on job.
Using engine crane (?35 a weekend from HSS) lifted the car using eng. mounts above the engine and then lowered it over. then lifted the engine into place. Mk2 drive shafts have to be fitted as the scirocco ones dont fit the gearbox.
The ecu fits in the same place as in the mk2 then things started to go wrong.
The distriutor cap fowls the brake reservior so it was sugested that a peugeot one would do the job, which with a side exit i thought too. But it faces to the rear so is a bit close to servo vac pipe. Also doing this cap swap meant the 16v leads didnt fit so others need to be sourced. I tried sierra cosworth silicone leads but they wont reach across the head so back to the drawing board.
Also fueling is proving to be a problem as well. The 16v uses a lift pump in the tank and filter, accumulator and fuel pump under the car. This unit unbolts from the underside of the valver but there is not enough space for this under the rear of the rocco. So i'm now hoping that i can use the standard lift pump in rocco and simply use the fuel pump only mounted to the under carrage and an inline bowl filter in the engine bay.
And this is as far as ive got and i need it finished for next thursday night.
Ill keep ya posted
Take it easy
