My mk1s are removed mainly as the mounting bolt hole on the guard rusted  but i do suffer water splash on the disc with it.

That happened to me 2 months after getting my car. I took it out one night for a proper test to see what it was like. After enjoying the numbers going up  I decided to test the brakes. Immediately after I heard this horrendous screeching. My first thought was of fear that I had seized the brakes or something. Took it home. Next morning had a look and pinged the little plates. Out fell a stone on either back wheel.

It was bad enough getting one stone in... but two... at the same time?
