Help with new wing
« on: 13 August 2012, 15:21 »
Afternoon,
Im after a new wing as the previous owner replaced the passengers but not the drivers, and yesterday i put my finger through the very bottom...woops. Iv seen euro wagens have them on there, £30 isnt bad but whats the quality and fitment like? Obviously going straight to VW would be the best shout but im scared about how much they are going to rob me for!
Anyone that has experience (I bet most of us do being mk3's ) let me know where to look.

Cheers

I fitted a wing for a Mk3 from Chung Fu Ching Enterprises and it didn't fit great but after a bit of fettling it came together quite well but wouldn't use them again. I can only imagine the eurowagens parts are a bit better and should fit ok. they will never be as good as a genuine part out the box but if your good with metal then should be fine. Worst parts are usually above in indicator getting the swage line nice and even. You could always hunt for a genuine second hand panel from off the forum or on ebay or whatever but good ones are becoming few and far between.

I bort a new pattern wing from national spares

The fit is okay, I did have to smash a bolster chisel in the door gap tho to stop the door hitting the wing when open

I fitted 2 pattern wings not long ago, as said the fit usually isn't great but with a bit of pissing about can be made to look good. Dont expect a bolt off bolt on job if you want it to fit right

Cheers for the response guys, I thought it would be a case of genuine parts to save messing about. Two for £200 doesnt sound bad at all though. Ill venture to the stealers at the end of the month, my dads good mate has been a VAG mechanic for most of his life and gets trade prices so i think ill definately save the hassle and go genuine.

Just get one second hand, will fit a lot better than a pattern one.

I'd rather pay £40 for two wings and have to fiddle with it then pay £200!
