What tyres for 17" rims on mk3?
« on: 07 December 2004, 04:14 »
Hello all,
Recently picked up a set set of 17" TT rims and tyres and stuck em on the mk3. The rear wheels now scuff the arches quite easily, even with no passengers in the car. Current tyre size is 215/40/17, if I drop down to a 205/40/17 on the rear will that get rid of the scrubbing? Is anyone else running this size wheel & tyre?
Suspension is stock OE at the mo, I was looking to lower it by 30mm but if it's rubbing now what will it be like then??
Any comments/tip greatly appreciated as always,

Cheers,
V

205/40's would be the size you should use. If you have a mk3 with plastic arch trims the rears will still catch the arches when you have people in the back. With just you in the car they won't catch very often. To clear completely you will need to cut back the arches slightly. If you have a mk3 without plastic arch trims you may get away with no arch mods, not sure.

I have 215/40's on mine with NO scrubbing. But then mine is not lowered.

These are on 17x8 rims and they are a bit stretched.
Gonna change them onto my other set of alloys which are 17x7's and see what the difference is.
