2l bottom end with mk2 power steering set up
« on: 01 May 2010, 16:08 »
Hey

Just getting to the end of putting a 2l bottom end in my mk2. The bottom end didnt come with power steering but my golf did so I took the pump and bracket off the original engine and fitted it to the new engine.

However.......Im guessing I should also have swapped over some pulleys too because now I dont have enough room for all the belts I have! Am I correct in saying

I need the crankshaft pulley that has room for two pulleys like this.....http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/VOLKSWAGON-GOLF-MK3-GTI-LIGHTWEIGHT-ALLOY-CRANK-PULLEY-/130334065686?cmd=ViewItem&pt=UK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM&hash=item1e58840416

And do I need a different water pump pulley too?

Cheers, Ellie

ok so in answer to my own question  after some research am I right in thinking I need.....

mk3 Alternator, mk3 power steering pump, mk3 belts, a different pulley for the water pump, (the one that sits the other way round) and the additional pulley for the crankcase sprocket.

But.........if I use a  mk3 power steering pump, can I use my original reservoir and lines that attach to the pump?

Mk3 alternator bracket that bolts to front of water pump, mk3 alternator and spring, mk3 pas pump and brackets, mk3 ribbed belt/pas  crank pulley, mk3 water pump pulley..

lines etc all fit no probs.. take the mk3 banjo bolt out and screw in the mk2 line
