MkIII - which oil to choose?
« on: 04 December 2004, 12:38 »
About to buy a MkIII 16V and just wondered what brand of oil other members like to feed theirs on and at what sort of intervals?

Used to change my MkI's synthetic oil at something like 2K intervals (as advised by his previous owner) and he ran beautifully on that basis but I can't remember the brand I used.

Could also use any good garage recommendations for the Manchester area - my mechanical skills only extend to basic maintenance and fault identification!

My mk3 used to have its oil done yearly at the stealership (they use silver synta or something?), as does the polo. Thats about 10-12000 miles apart  :undecided:

Mk2 was done last with Shell oil

I use VW Quantum silver in my mk1, I change the oil every 4k and get it full serviced every 8k.  I'd suggest use Quantum silver or gold but ask stealership for advice on which one to use.
......now officially dubless.

that shell oil that dubby used is very good, the fully synthetic is used by ferrari dealers when they do services. but any reasonable semi synthetic will be up to the job, not worth using fully synth. as for intervals, couple of times a year will keep it running sweet.
team grumpy....... its a way of life, not a forum post
