hi, where can i get a velocity stack like that? cheers
It cost a couple of quid off of ebay (i think it was from a Harley Davidson). I just searched for one until I found one the right size and obviously had to butcher on end. I think some jenvey trumpets are the right size as well.

Thanks Paul, good old ebay... found this but its not exactly cheap http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Chrome-Velocity-Stack-S-S-Carburetor-Harley_W0QQitemZ260558094771 I'll work out the measurements and search again properly then.
That is the same one I bought, but I must have bought it off someone who had bought it from them and not used it. It was cheaper and from the uk.

TBH, you might as well start out with a VR6, or a 1.8t.

as your never gonna gain a big enough power gain that you probably want, you will always be chasing the "dream".

IMO and experiance, you have to start with a good base to tune.

the 1.8t engines are tunable to hell. and have forged cranks and internals as standard. so can take massive BHP with out questions.

as said earlier on the in the thread, your only gonna gain small BHP for alot of work.

You probably wouldn't want to start with a Golf in that case.

All been discussed before. VR6 has a heavy engine with the weight high up and in the wrong place in relation to the wheels. Its gonna take a lot of work to get it to handle like the 16v.
1.8t engines are all right but you start tuning them and other bits give up. The coil packs fail very soom after having a remap usually on your way home. The added load and heat on the standard turbos isn't good either.
It's horses for courses - all tuning and development will cause you problems and there will always be a better base that you could have started with.

yeh i have heard big over heating problems with those golfs. the power comes relativly easy but the cooling doesnt lol.

and i always think there is never going to be cheap speed.

the only way to get real, good cheap speed is just on two wheels rather then 4

You could just start with a BMW M3...................

......but where's the fun in that?
Golf MK3 1.8 auto and I didn't pay a grand for the "priveledge", auto windows all round and a AC. Oh and I've got a luggage net you pricks!

Does that make my willy look bigger?

Oh yeah it's called Helda or something....

Sure you can add a 1.8T...which in 150BHP form is slower point to point than a 16v with 150 BHP.
So you turn up the boost...giving big torque...which the ancient Mk3 chassis can't put down so you end up with a wheelspin machine, whilst the 16v with less - and more linear - torque delivery drives away whilst being easier to drive.

If you fit a K03 1.8T the weight is similar...but if you fit a K04 1.8T you have more weight, and in order to not eat gearboxes, you probably fit the 02M gearbox (or build a hybrid 02A with Quaife/Gemini internals at a cost of £1000s)...so you add even more weight to the nose (02M) and end up with the poorer handling associated with it.

200 BHP from a 16v is not cheap or easy compared to as 1.8T...but it's much nicer to drive, in my book.

Horses for courses...

Reducing my Golf count by the week....
..but gaining motorcycles.

Tomorrow I'm going to remove my airbox on the 16v and play with that for a while. It's already got a pipercross panel filter in there, so I'm gonna clean it up, oil it, and then drill, smooth and derestrict it. Should be a fun day

Started smoothing the air box. Paul, how did you cut off all the bits of plastic? As you can see mine is a tad messier than yours

almost finished, just got the top flat bit to do. It's a real pain getting that one smooth!

and rounded the intake hole

It looks pretty rough in the pics but it's not as bad in the flesh.
