yeah mk3s are only immobilsed after around 1996. the main thing is you need to get the ecu, loom and managment bits all matched together, the base blocks can be converted between early & late spec by swapping all the bits over.  if you get early managment this also means no immobiliser, later setup means you also need to get the immob box loom, and find a matched key and transponder box. as long as you get that, you can match these to your ecu with vag-com

Hi Rubjonny,

What do you mean by management bits? I thought that was the ECU?

I started with a complete Donor Car so have the ECU, Loom, Dials, MAF and engine etc all out of the same car. I havr no keys or locks from the donor though.

As said it is the VR6 Bits that are earlier than the current GTI.

As for insurance, ive always declared all mods etc on all my previous cars, so this will be no different. The DVLA will be notified aswell.

Cheers

Matt

Morning!!

Just Reserecting this thread!!

I need confirmation still on the wiring side of things.

Am I right in assuming that I can remove the GTI Engine Loom and ECU etc and plug the VR6 Engine Loom with ECU etc into the Fusebox and remove the Transponder ring from the ignition barrel and the car will still start and run ok using the GTI Key?

Just getting everything in to place so I can take a long weekend and do it all in one hit!!

Im happy with everything else, its just the Wiring side I need the confirmation on.

Cheers

if its an early vr6 with all the matchign loom, sensors, tb, ecu etc then yes :)
the immob is built into the ecu, so removing the immobed 8v ecu and replacing with a non-immob vr6 ecu will mean the transponder box will no longer do anything :)

Thats Great!!

I started with a Donor car so everything VR6 related is from the same car.

So in reality it should all be pretty much plug and play then?!!

Thanks for your help!!

Cheers

aye it shouldf plug right in and work, you'll need to swap the ecu relay for a vr6 '109' one, but apart from that its all good
