How to change your throttle body rubber mount.
« on: 12 April 2010, 19:55 »
So when my 1.8MK3 caught fire I though I better sort it.  Well when I say me, it's abit hard for me ATM so get yourself a little slave (then get him to take pictures.  )

These going can cause all sorts of idle and rough running issues! You will see cracks on it if it's gone.

The throttle body rubber mount had split and my boss tells me these go quite a bit as they do on the Polos. Very simple job and I used a flat bladed screw driver, a Philips screwdriver and a 10mm socket, extensions and ratchet.

Here's the bugger:

Bloody cost me £38 WITH TPS discount!

So to start with pull off the pipe that goes from the airbox to the thottle body plastic intake. Mine was jubilee clipped on.

Then remove these three 10mm nuts:

This will leave you with this:

Blurry pic is blurry.

There are four 10mm bolts undo them. Then there are two connectors you want to remove and a tube clipped to it, remove it. Ignore the two pipes next to eachother on the right hand side, they are fiel pipes, leave them on and just move the whole lot over. Take off the throttle cable, pull rubber bung up then un attatch metal cable.

You will see this:

See the cracks? Flames.

Undo the four nuts on that and it will come off with a pull (I used a flat blade screwdriver):

Then reverse to refit, and start it up. I haven't seen mine running yet it's out of f**king petrol.

Enjoy a more subtle idle.

Does that make my willy look bigger?

Oh yeah it's called Helda or something....
