Replacement panel filters

I'm considering getting a Pipercross replacement panel filter for my Mk4

a) is it worth it (they're about ?30)

b) are there any problems associated with doing this?? (I think that Pipercross ones are dry foam, not evil MAF Sensor killing oil-impregnated cotton like K&N).

I'm sure it's safe - but I have heard bad things about pipercross and the foam degenerating and being passed into the engine !!!

This was on one of their induction kits (well several actually), so I'd personally look elsewhere.

I'm sure K&N panel stuff is ok ... what have u heard to think they're bad

I was looking into this for my mk4 and after viewing various forums the one that seemed to be mentioned the most was the Green Cotton Panel Filter.

I thought i read somewhere that the mk4 didn't like the cleanable and oilable filters as the oil clogged up the wires on the airflow meter. I may be mistaken though. Anyone else heard this?

Yeah the oilable filters are evil, for the reason you mention.  That's why I'm thinking about the dry foam type.

if your gonna use a piperX then it still needs oiled. though you only give it a very very light coating.
