mk2 heater problems
« on: 19 November 2004, 11:22 »
Right,

I've got a mk2 driver 1.6 and have a problem (i think) with the heater. There is not a problem with the heat, hot and cold selecter works fine but the speed setting on the blower does not seem to work on 1 or the window symbol.

It blows likea beast on three but not on the other two. Bit anoying because I don't want a full gale blowing all the time. It also makes a little sqealing noise when I select 3 speed at first and then goes after a few seconds but then if I switch it off it squeals again when it slows down. Normal?

Also on the windscreen demaist setting it blows through all the vents except the drivers side vent which leaves me with a clear screen except the bit I need to see through! Blockage somewhere?

Any Help would be great guys

Acko :)

Theres a resistor pack on the side of the motor which you can replace, gsf sells it and I think you can buy it from VW too.

Same thing happened to me, I got a second hand blower off one of the guyz here! fixed the problem! Like rubjonny, it's the resistor that goes!!

Also i have the same problem as you with the drivers side window vent, seems to be coming through at a very slow speed, then the middle one next to it is blowing like a gale, i have tries pushing some rubber tubing down it to see if it is blocked but it seems ok! I am at a loss on this, maybe it just the way it is i don't know!!!!

If you find a cure please let me know!

Cheers guys, looks like i'll have to scout around for a new blower unit from the scrappers or sumet. Any ideas on how much or how easy to fit?

take passenger shelf off, remove the foam stuff and the whole unit just twist off! really easy :)
