my mk2 1.6 golf idles at 2000ish how can i decrease it? i can adjust it on the throttle but cant get it to stay low?

if its got the original carb, have a read of the 2e2 faq in the mk2+maintenance section. could be a 3/4 point unit or waxstat issue
