swopping stereo
« on: 20 March 2010, 20:10 »
ok the car hasn't arrived yet and I'm already planning a mod lol.

It's coming with the base radio as the RCD510 is dead cheap on ebay. Are they hard to fit, does it need vagcom or anything ?

thanks

Pom

hmm the RNS510 sat nav / video is only a 600, they are listed as 'C' version for the Golf 5 though. I'm guessing this is no good for the new golfs ?

Don't worry I wont be buying outside of UK.

cheers

Same thing for MK5 and MK6...
If you fit one of them, then you'll need vagcom coding to get it to work properly.

Eh? You don't need vag.com to change from a 310 to a 510, just plug and play.  In answer to the OP, yes it's a doddle if you have a set of torq keys and a cutlery knife, and half a brain.

OK, get a blunt thin instrument (I used a cutlery knife and gently prise of the head unit surrounding fascia. It clips in to various places but just lever it off gently and evenly.  Next get your Torx bits out and remove the four bolts holding the stereo in (can't remember exact Torx size). Pull out stereo, unplug stereo (one big plug if memory serves and it's one of those lever jobbies). Plug new one in, fire up power and punch in your code and reverse process to fit. 5 minute job mate, very easy.

That didn't read right I guess...

Same thing for MK5 and MK6 - talking about the RNS510's on ebay

If you fit one of them, then you'll need vagcom coding to get it to work properly. - Again, talking about the RNS510's - not the RCD510.
