plus if the clod mechanic read the codes while the engine was static - you always get a "engine speed sensor - open circuit/no signal" code - he should have realised its a fake code, cos the engine aint turning, and it auto-clears that one at every start up.

Not 100% but, with these if you've totally lost the ignition timing - you need a advance timing light and you need to put the ECU into "timing mode" or it will try to adjust the timing when you move the dizzy.

I think you can do it via VagCom but not 100% on how...

You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

with these you dont use a timing gun at all!
set the cam and crank to tdc, then pop dizzy cap off. look carefully at the outer riung of the dizzy housing and you'll find a faint notch, there is a cutout in the plastic dust cover for this to show thru. line the rotor arm to the notch, and thats all there is to it!

Hi Jonny

I can not find any mark on the dizzy as it is new. Or the notch you are on about is that the little bit that looks like it's been cut out  on the metal ring just under the black plastic cover.

thats the bit mate, the rotor has a centreline that aligns with a small cut line on the metal rim of the lower dizzy body when no1 cyl is at top dead centre on the compression stroke.

Hi Fly how r u matey.

Fly the rota arm is pointing at no1 plug but the notch is pointing in other direction the notch is it the one right next to where the 3 pin switch plugs in. if so this is facing at 5 o'clock mate the rotar arm is at approx 12 o'clock or just before if this makes sense mate.

Not bad Stevo me old mate!

Yep the rotor should be pointing at the notch, which should be where the no1 plug is.....If its not, slacken the the diz body and rotate it until it does, keeping the engine no1 cyl right on TDC at all times.
