8v digi idle
« on: 11 March 2010, 00:20 »
Bit of a strange one this. The revs on my 8v digi mk2 have been behaving a little oddly the past month or so. Basically the car will idle normally on start up and normally most of the time, however every now and again it bounces up to 1500 odd when slowing down to stop. As soon as I pop the clutch up a little it settles down to around 900 again. Rather annoying in traffic having to keep popping the clutch up slightly to get it to idle nicely when stopped. Seems to be an intermittent problem.

Some of the vacuum hoses look a little tired so this could be linked. Does anyone have a diagram of where they all are on a mk2 and do they use 3mm hose? Do they just pull off? The ISV will also be coming off to be cleaned again.

Is there anything else I should be checking? Car runs well other than this.

Cheers

Same problem here mate, but only when cold. It idles at 1100, then 1000, then 900, then bouces up and down between 900 - 1100 when slowing down/stopping.

I had similar problem and i found out the wiring to the blue senser was iffy so it was only working some of the time, that was after i changed idle stabiliser valve for mk3 one though so i could rule that one out.

i had similar on a 16v, and it turned out to be a problem with a stiff throttle cable. it would hold the throttle linkage slightly open so the idle switch wasnt being triggered. i found lifting the throttle pedal up with my foot helped, so took cable off and ran some silicone spray lube down it and it was sorted.

8v throttle is linked up slightly differently so this isnt as much of a problem, but worth checking it all over to make sure it will spring shut properly, and that the cable isnt too tight

is there not a sticker on the bonnet or slam panel? the routing is pretty simple tho.

on the throttle body, the nipple closest to the driver side and the one round the back are blocked off. the passenger side nipple runs to a T pice, which runs to the fpr on the end of the fuel rail, and then to the airbox.  On the brake servo pipe there is a vac pipe to the mfa, the other 2 are capped off.

Check this ebay seller out, he does gen vag vac hose:
