then fit a pipercross panel filter in place of the original paper filter and stick a cold air feed to it, and if you wanna go the whole way.... smooth off the inside of the box to get better air flow.... ignore the drilling of the air box, it doesnt do anything but make noise.

no the gti ones wont fit, they have afm/maf and 16v doesn't. not sure on the 1.8 ones, I guess they'll be close as no maf/afm. just make sure they hav a hole for the inlet air temp sensor, dont think the spi models do. diesel one may work?

Sorry for thread hijack but...

Does anyone know if an 8v panel filter fits a 16v box?

panel filters are the same...and I'm 99% sure the airboxes are the same (but the connector pipes are different) as I had a 16v airbox fitted to my 8v and my 8v box was used to replace an induction kit on a 1.8

dont think you had a 16v box on your 8v, unless it was a 1.8?  Like i said the GTI 8v will have an AFM or a MAF bolted to the airbox.  Since the 16v has neither, you've got nowhere to fit one

john would the base part be the same (the bit everybody drills) as I'm sure my old box came from a 16v (although I could of used just the base and panel filter only and we then used my old base part on the 1.8)

i really shouldn't post past midnight!  :lipsrsealed:
