Gearbox issues D:
« on: 07 March 2010, 12:38 »
So I posted before about a crunching sound when shifting to reverse, so I would like to get my gearbox issues resolved. So I've got a few questions

 - Does anyone know which gearbox oil a '93 2.0 GTi takes?

 - Any ideas how to remove the freedom in the gearstick? Which allows me to wobble the stick around whilst in and out of gear.

 - Is there a guide somewhere on how to change the gearbox oil?

Thanks!

You need a kit which has new bushes and washers etc which will sort the sloppy stick (eBay £15). As for gear box there are several you can use but not all are the same ratios. Can't remember but there are loads of threads of which box to use if you run a search. 020 box refers to the casing not the gearing just so you know.

EDIT; Just teslised you were asking about gear oil not gearboxs. Dur, I really should pay attention when I'm reading.

it uses 75w/90 oil and this should be synthetic and regarding the sloppyness check rubjonny's guide in the mk2 maintenance section as the set up is very similar
