Weird RPM Problem
« on: 04 March 2010, 17:58 »
I was driving down the A40 yesterday in the 5th gear, and was coming up to a steep hill, so I thought I would change to the lower gear for more power....

Changed to 4th, realized wasn't enough, then put it in 3rd and RPM went to 6000 and started reving itself like crazy

I put it in neutral hoping that the RPM will drop, but it was reving the same, I thought the engine will fcuking explode.

So had to switch the ignition off and pull off.

Tried to start again, but it didn't start first time and even second time. On the 3rd attempt it started, but was idling poorly.

Now I seem to have this problem that the car doesn't pull properly. It kinda jerks and hesitates to go further around 2000-3000 rpm and then picks up.

I have no idea what to do or what's the problem...

Your thoughts?  :lipsrsealed:

try cleaning throttle body

Cleaned it about a month ago with carb cleaner. I'm thinking maybe it's the cable that's messed up.

did you hit any puddle just before the problem appeared? I would suggest to check High Voltage cables, distributor etc

No puddles, as it was nice and dry on the way.

And I definitely put it in 3rd, because before that I tried the 4th.

Will try to spray some carb cleaner on the throttle body cable and see if it helps. Have checked the cable few hours ago, and it feels rough, doesn't move smoothly.

WD40 or carb cleaner should be fine?

for the throttle cable, wd40.

Carb cleaners are either isopropyl alcohol compound OR a hydrocarbon-based (petrol) solvent depending on brand, that evaporates and leaves the surface bone dry and powdery, not good for a sliding cable bud, but use carb spray to clean he inside o the throttle body / butterfly valve. Make sure it returns cleanly from fully open wi the engine off, and the cable slides freely, then it should be good.
