Electrics
« on: 15 February 2010, 08:50 »
I've searched through the forum and now realise that the Mk3 electircs can cause major problems.

My 16V is a weekend toy and I went to start it this weekend and the battery was quite flat (probably due to the immobiliser).  As the engine wound over slowly, the passenger side window started to go down but stopped once the engine was running.  I put the window back up and went for a drive with no problems, but when I came out to the car this morning I noticed that the passenger side window was half open again.
It's definately on the runners as it goes up and down ok so what is causing this.  The motor for the drivers side window, which is broke, also runs for a while when the ignition is turned off.

Can anybody give me an idea of what to look at?

the switches on the drivers door.  Can just pop them out and disconnect to test.
You only ever need two tools in life. If it moves and it shouldn't use Duct Tape. If it does not move and it should, use WD40.

its not a switch issue. if the windows are working when the ignition is off you have a wiring problem, in the door loom there will be an ignition wire, check the condition of the wire etc.
