Throttle hesitation and cutting out
« on: 24 February 2010, 18:07 »
Im having an issue with my 16v. when i press the throttle, not every time, but a lot, the car hesitates for a second then leaps forward.
Also when going from revs to idle, ie clutch in from driving it stalls, again not everytime but often.
Its happens when its hot or cold.
I pulled the plug off the Intake Temperature Sensor (plug in the big black pipe) and the car runs fine, no hesitation, no cutting out but my mpg has dropped to 21.5mpg

So i today purchased and fitted a new sensor and its back to doing it again

I have cleaned the throttle body the other day with carb cleaner (its spotless )

Anyone any ideas what it could be??

It could be that your Air filter is blocked? check to make sure that the air filter & pipes are clear, also on the back of your TB there should be an "L" bracket that attaches to a tube that leads to the air box, if thats snapped or blocked it can cause problems, also its worth taking another look at your TB, check that the butterfly value opens & closes freely, check that all pipes leading to the TB are fine, It defo sounds like something to do with Air/Fuel, something is not right with ones of those factors, maybe your fuel pump is nackered? or your MAF is bugged, check everything around this region im confident its something along the AIR/Fuel route.

Hope this helps. :)

Check all your wiring and plug connections! I had exactly the same problem and it was a cracked wire by the coil and broken wire on plug by distributor.
