Can't close sunroof
« on: 21 February 2010, 16:07 »
I opened my sunroof today but it wouldn't close on the motor or using the manual allen key.  I have manged to get it nearly closed but it won't go the last bit, it seems to be rocking on something about half way along the sunroof.
Any ideas on what to do? I hope the rain stays off.

Basically your sunroof is f**ked and it's time for a new one. I have one for sale if you're local to Suffolk but I bet you're not.

I had a similar problem with my first Mk3 Golf, and the only thing I could do was (from inside the car) push the sliders along with a flat headed screwdriver, although it does take some force :undecided:

If this doesn't work, there's a possibility it could be getting stuck on the wind deflector thingy, which it was doing on my second Mk3 Golf, so I removed the wind deflector.

My third Mk3 thankfully doesn't have a sunroof. Although I'd like one sometimes.

I've got it closed to within about a quarter of an inch but it won't go the last bit.  It looks like there are tracks on the sides of the sunroof that a pin goes in.  Is this what needs to move to get it fully closed.
Just need to get it shut tonight, then can sort out properly next weekend.

I'm still struggling to get my sunroof to close up completely.  On each side of the sunroof there are some tracks and what looks to me to be a pin which rides in the track.  To pull the sunroof down and seal against the roof do I have to hit the bit with the pin in to get it to pull the sunroof down?
I know the sunroof is knackered anyway but just need to get it watertight for now.
