A cam belt should really be changed every 40k or 4 years, yes some books say more miles but cheaper to replace the belt than the engine.

I would say between 40 and 50k miles, and about 5 years.

Just changed mine so I can hoon it with empunity, even paid a garage to do it so if something goes worng I have someone to shout at

You may shout at them as much as you want but you still have to prove it was due to their incompetency that the belt went (if it were to go), which can be hard to prove.

True, but everybody likes a good fire

But for the purest engine experience, displacement has no replacement. All other methods are simply attempts to artificially recreate the benefits of displacement.

I've had one go within 3 years. Looked in the period VAG service manual. Change every 60k miles or every 2 years, which ever comes first.

Waterpump costs around £40 from tps, u also £10 back on exchange, not expensive really, just had my cam belt and waterpump, rockercover gasket done for £70, but I supplied the parts, done as I was unsure when belt was done, as people said earlier, better safe than
