Night time stuff
« on: 01 March 2010, 12:28 »
Thought I'd be brave last night and try my hand at some night shots. Didn't last long before I got annoyed with not getting what I wanted and came home. So only managed 4 shots that I liked...

All of them were shot on a tripod with a remote. Custom white balance and slow shutter speeds
Still got a lot to learn I know, I'm not trying to pass these off as professional shots so just some constructive criticism would be awesome :D

Shot @ 55mm, 200 ISO, f7.1 with 15.00s

Shot @ 90mm, 800 ISO, f/5 with 0.60s

Shot @ 35mm, 200 ISO, f5.6 with 20.00s

Shot @ 35mm, 200 ISO, f5.6 with 20.00s

Love the top shot.  There's something HDR-esque about it.

I think you did really well.  What were you hunting for that you didn't get?!
Just because you're offended doesn't make you right.

Holiday cottages on the Isle of Wight for 2-10 people? PM me.

I like the first two, especially the boat shot.

Not sure the framing on the car ones works, less of the car in the shot would of been better.

Thanks for the comments guys. I wanted something a little lighter with the car in a different place, but I think I left it too late where there was no light. The flash just didn't cut it.

Gonna see if I can get out again this week a little earlier.

I'd say the third is the best of the bunch, the first one to me looks out of focus.

The seconds one is a nice scene, but it's very noisy, I'm assuming you've gone to an ISO of 800 to capture the action eg the boats were bobbing.  you could probably remove some of the noise in PS

I like the third one, the only comment I'd make is a graduated ND filter would have sorted the sky out, or a quick mask around the lighthouse and car and then adjusted the levels to make the sky more black.  The star burst on both the light house and the side lights is good!

The last one is too underexposed for my tastes.

The scene itself is nice, would like to see what it's like without the golf in the foreground too.

That second shot is so crisp and clear its fantastic! I also love the light reflections on the water, it is so easy to over expose the light reflections but thats brill! :tu:
