Hi there

i have a broken wire that goes thru the tailgate to my back lights etc.. The problem is this, the brown wire has broken, the one for my number plate light, the thing is is that the wire is so short I cannot even cut the old wire to fix an new extension to it, has anyone come across this before who can offer some advice because this is doing my head in trying to fix it, spent hours and still not fixed,

thanks in advance for any help

I replaced my tailgate recently, as mine got bent in a bust up. Where has it snapped? What I did was connect each wire coming out of the roof to the end of the wire in the new tailgate and pulled it through from the bottom (number plate end) but I had to take the sound deadening out coz it kept caught in it lol but done it eventually. Not sure what you can do if you can't reach the old wire. I'd suggest taking the deadening out first, and then just keep poking a new wire from the grommet through until it negotiates the corners itself lol but they're may be an easier way to do this

Correct me if im wrong peeps, but recently i had this wire break,  and before i looked in that gaiter i was using my test lamp on the number plate wires to see wot was missing. 12v was there but no earth. Would it be wrong to suggest fixing the brown from the lamps to some cleaned up metal on the tailgate. a bodge i know but the lamps are only 5w each so should be ok???????

i was lucky enough to pull the wire though on mine and solder some extra wire on but i tried it using the test lamp and the number plate lamps worked

if it was me id pull the wiring out of the tailgate completly and repair it on the bench. its not actually that hard to remove and refit the tailgate wiring, its quite stiff so it goes back in pretty easily. the tricky bit is the screen heater wires, but what you do there is pop the plastic plug off the spade connector then tie a bit of string to the wires before you pull them out. tape the string to the tailgate so it doesnt fall off, thn use the string to pull the wires back thru once you're done.  the tailgate wiring disconnects from the C pillar area on the passenger side
