rattle
« on: 04 November 2004, 12:04 »
Really annoying rattle from inside the dashboard. I've had the glovebox out and the other side under the steering column but can't find anything loose. Nothing loose under the bonnet either. Could it be something internal in the heater rattling?

Help!

man! it could be 101 things! the older a car gets the more rattles appear, they drive you nuts but you can spend forever trying to find them. believe me, i have one that i have been trying to find for so long i don't know what else to try! mind you doesn't help having my car on the floor! ;)

i guess the only thing to do is start pulling your dash apart and systematicly cover and plastic bits that float around (ie cable connectors) with foam sleeving and try to make sure as little as possible is moving. i don't know mk3s at all but cant be too hard. if its a vibration type of rattle it may be harder to track down as its normally the road and engine causing the vibration.
just don't stick your head in the dash while driving about trying to get it to rattle, sure ifre way of ending up in a crash!!! but you're far too sensible for that eh? :P
