175 bhp / 140 lb ft so far
« on: 30 October 2004, 15:05 »
MK2 16V with 9a block, pair o schrick cams and stage 2 head.

Got a wee drive in it last night after the first road test. Jim at Star says that he will be dynoing it again on Monday and tweaking the ignition and maybe cam timing a wee bit more and will hopefully see more gains.

After a few thousand miles, when the head has coked up again, should develop more too!

Told me to dump the Kwik Fit exhaust and pop on a jetex to release more power but funds are tighter than I thought they were gonna be so that is a job for the spring along with a new oil cooler.

Thats pretty impressive, my motor (still...!!) is having similar work done, stage 2 head, 264 piper cams, flowed inlet so am hoping for some nice gains, once I finally get it back.

Is there some sort of running in procedure that needs to be done after this sort of work as it seems you took yours on a power run straight after having the work done......??

Also, how different did it perform on the road from the way it was previously set up.....??

Cheers ;)

Couldn't compare before and after mate as I not long acquired the car and the clutch was slipping (a new SACHS has been put in now)

I was told that no running in was necessary as the block was second hand - must admit I had my reservations and only took it to 4500 rpm

Final tweaks today resulted in an extra 4bhp so up to 179 now on standard exhaust.

Don't fancy the WUR mod as some folks reckon on poor starting so this'll do nicely till I get the exhaust done in Spring!

Not quite sure yet but there was a lot of ancillary work I got done too which adds to the cost - new clutch, tappets, hoses, starter motor, belts etc.

Head was about ?600 and cams about ?500 I think with approx ?400 for labour - gonna be ?2500 I think all in when you count the cost of the car and the MOT
