Where to get spare remote key?
« on: 30 January 2010, 19:53 »
My car only came with one remote car key, apart from the stealers where can I get another?

Is the cheapest option to buy a second hand one from ebay with a blank, then get it cut and buttons/immobiliser programmed?

.........think it's to do with the way the ''key'' is cut, lazer or something & is done in Germany ?????. When you think about how may jobs it does 100.00 ain't too bad.Maybe try & get some back off the dealer who supplied the car & to be honest why is there only one ???.

If I remember rightly, the hard bit is coding the immobilizer chip in the key, not the cutting of the key itself.  someone on here a few months back said they had a right nightmare trying to do it cheaply, via ebay etc and ended up going to the dealer.

..........don't want to worry anyone BUT VW supplied 2 keys with the cars (mine was second hand & came with the 2 keys). Maybe beef up you'r security as you don't want a visit form the person who still has/sold on the ''lost'' key ?????.

If this is a concern you can get the dealer to code out the missing key so the car won't recognise the immobiliser chip or the remote central locking codes if it does ever 'turn up'.  Doesn't stop someone opening the doors with the blade but at least they can't move the car / deactivate the alarm.
