Irattic tickover

Wonder if anyone could give me some advice, bought a Mk3 16v gti last month and the tick over is a little lumpy, almost like its missing... drives fine when given some gas..

This morning the tick over was dropping down to about 300 rpm then shooting up to about 1700 then dropping to 300 back up t 1700 and so on up and down...   any ideas?

The car has a K&N induction kit fitted

Any advice would be most appreciated

Have you had a good look under the hood... check the Vac pipes for leaks, oil breather pipes for blockages. and give it a good service. you might find the spark plugs, HT leads, etc are shot.
