Broken throttle motor?
« on: 05 January 2010, 12:49 »
On Sunday the Exhaust System warning light came on (solid not flashing) in my GTI. Which seams to be quite a common occurrence at the moment as a few others have posted up regarding this recently. Anyway took it in for a check over this morning and the garage has traced the fault to a broken throttle motor (the garage did give me the proper name but can't remember it). My understanding is this is to do with the electronic throttle using a motor/actuator to physically open the throttle when you press the go pedal.

Has anyone else has this problem before? There was no noticeable change while driving before or after, though I didn't push it as the warning light was on and it's been quite snowy here.  Unfortunately my warrantee ended in November (doh!) and have been given a quote of £160 all in including tax and fitting. The garage also said that VW will cover 30% of the cost (already deducted for a price of £160) which seams strange but very kind of them. All this doesn't sound too bad but would appreciate some second opinions/advice from you guys if you have any. Thanks in advance.

yup, and its called the Intake Flap Motor.

mine went in Year 2 of ownership (brand new car). So had it fixed under warranty.

Quite common tho from what I hear.

Thats the thingy.

Its back from the garage and i think the Intake Flap Motor, or the electronics that control it, has been faulty for a while. The throttle is now noticably more sensitive.
