Switched Live - Stereo
« on: 04 January 2010, 11:17 »
Hi
Did a search but could not find anything relevant.
My stereo is working but wont switch off as i have connected both the switched live and live to the positive wire.
Reason being there is no switched live wire present:

The Pin in the above diagram labelled L is suppose to be Switched Live (Yellow with Red Stripe or Brown with Red Stripe), but for some odd reason there is no cable attached to that pin.

To fix this i need to get a new wire cabled up by the looks of things, so what i need to know is if anyone knows where i can get a switched live feed from? I have all the under dash panels removed but not sure where to look.

If anyone can help that would be great

Thanks

Hafizur

look for a thin brown/red wire behind the dash, from the factory this would be connected to the stereo plug. this is a 'key in ignition' live feed.

if its there, chances are whoever fitted the stereo bridged both the live & accessory live wires to the perm live feed, you used to have to do this on older VWs as no accessory live was supplied.  Also its worth noting that the VW plug is wired back to front compared to std ISO wires, so the live & ign live wires to the stereo will probably need to be switched over.

Confusingly on most std ISO cables the yellow wire is live and red is accessory live, whereas on the VAG plug the red wire is live!

I'll have another look to see if i can find it.

If that cable is not there, where can i get a feed from? or in other words where would this brown/red wire originate from?

In my 1.4 i ran my own 12V source from the battery into both the radio live, and ignition terminals as i had a unreliable source in the loom.

It was perfect all it meant was that i had to manually turn the radio off - no big deal as it would no longer loose its memory, and i could switch it on without the keys!

ignition live can be taken from the thick red/black behind the heater controls or from the black wire at the ignition switch

the brown/red wire starts at the ignition switch, I would tap into that rather than the ign switch black wire or heater controls wire.
