Heated Door Mirrors
« on: 05 January 2010, 18:06 »
Chaps, a quick question for you.

When you have put on the heated door mirrors using the toggle switch on the drivers door does a light come on? When I put them on there is no indication to say you have them on apart from the position of the switch. I would have thought that the symbol should light up to say they are on. Just to check that I don't have a fault.

No indication at all, just remember to switch them off as obviously they use electric, thus costing you fuel albeit a small amount.

No, no light for me either.
Why couldn't they just have included that function on the rear heated screen button like other cars?  I don't know how many times I put the heated wing mirrors on and left it their all day until folding in the mirrors.

I thought they switched off automatically after a set period, so if you leave the switch in the on position, they'll only heat up for a short while each time you switch the ignition on?

They may well do but a light would have been nice

that's how mine work in my MK4

For mine to be on, the mirror switch has to be in the correct position and the rear heated screen ON

Have VW changed that then?

Yar, on my mkv (and my fiancee's 2004 polo) the heated mirrors are operated by the switch on the door being in the correct position - completely independant of the rear screen.  On the mk5, if the computer decides the battery voltage is getting low it will automatically start powering down non essential items, with the first item being the heated mirrors.* Presumably the same is true of the mk6.

Thanks chaps, that confirms what I thought. Must remember to switch them off. I also agree that it would be nice if you had an indication they were on.
