Winter Pack...
« on: 13 December 2009, 11:24 »
I placed my order about 6 weeks ago now - you can see my spec in my signature.

I'm now having doubts about the standard 'R' cloth seats with the light grey alcantara bolsters.  I just got new white trainers and was wearing them with new raw blue jeans.  Within 3 days the trainers are covered in dark blue marks, as are the laces.  No matter how hard you scrub the trainers, the blue won't come out.
Ok... its not really a big deal on a £60 pair of trainers... but I can't help thinking if I had been sitting on those seats - they'd have blue stains on them - which wouldn't come out!

So - I'm about 99% sure I'm going to call the dealer and change to leather.  Just the standard leather as I can't justify £3k on Recaros... as much as I'd love to!!  Even £1700 on leather makes me squirm - but I'd rather pay than have my seats ruined after a few months.  Plus, the standard leather in the R actually looks much smarter than I expected.

I'm sure the Winter Pack is originally Headlight Washers, Heated Seats and Heated Windscreen Washers?
The R has xenons as standard (which have headlight washers by law) and the leather will have heated seats.
I'd get the first 2 as standard with my options... so surely by speccing the Winter Pack I'd be paying about £250 for Heated Windscreen Washers?!?!?

If this is the case then I'll add leather and remove the winter pack?  Heated Washers would be useful for about 5 days of the year... but I've lived without them for about 15 years of driving, so I don't think I'll be paying £250 for them!

Can anyone confirm please?

If it was me and everyone here knows how im not one for adding lots of options. I would myself go for the leather due to the cost of the car already but also because I think that if you decide to sell it at some point the leather may not get you any money back but it will make it alot easier to sell. I know a lot of skoda owners found this out with the vRS models with there white bits on the seats.

Yes - this is the case.

I was going to ring my dealer and get him to remove the Winter Pack (I have ordered leather), but £250 on a £35K car is a drop in the ocean so decided to keep anyway.

Just went in past the dealer just now.
I have added leather and removed the Winter Pack.  Although its only £225 extra, its something I'll never use - so whats the point in paying for it?!

I managed to re-negotiate my deal too - so that I got the 1.77% discount I had previously on the price including leather.
A whopping £620 off the retail price
Not much - but better than a kick in the teeth!!
