Replacement Rear Bushes
« on: 09 January 2010, 16:59 »
I have a 1997 mk3 golf gti 8V lowered 80mm all round. Can anyone recommend good poly prop replacement bushes and a retailer that combines service and cost.

are you talking about the rear beam bushes? get powerflex ones, try venom motorsport. they are a complete ball ache to fit.

it can be done, but if you decide to do the entire car its a lot of work. i did mine off the car as i had the engine out and that was hard enough. just be prepared.

it really does tighten the whole car up, and is worth it in the long run. I would say the rear beam bushes were the hardest to do. i had to bore out the hole in the rear beam for the bush a lot so it would fit. even then it was a very tight fit!

if you are going to do any in the front, i would do them at the same time. arb bushes and wishbone bushes. take a look on the powerflex site for a diagram of there products on a mk3.

You say you had to bore out the hole in the rear beam and even then it was tight. Thats really odd, I fitted mine and they simply pushed in using my fingers. They were still a tight fit but using the supplied grease went in with complete ease. I am wondering if you got the wrong ones as there are 2 sizes(4 or 5 stud)???

they are hard to fit, but £100 seems quite steep. with the price of bushes, thats £150 for your rear beam to be polybushed......

get stuck and do it yourself, even if it takes you a day, saves you £100! just make sure you got a file and hammer, etc
