Looking for a Gti
« on: 01 December 2009, 17:17 »
Hello,

I am currently in the process of finding myself a new car now that insurers won charge me ridiculous amounts of money for owning a decent motor.

ONe of the cars Im considering is a MK3 Golf Gti 16V, as these seem to be coming down in price within my budget of around 1k (also considering a Ibiza Cupra, Almera Gti, and Rover 25Gti as I own a Rover  atm, no jokes plz )

Now couple questions if you could help me out with, firstly how easy are these cars to work on, I am half decent with a spanner and into modding so would give the car a good service and start with changing suspension exhaust etc., next is could you give me a rough idea of what sort of MPG I could be expecting on a long run on the motorway from one of these and finally I am strugleing to find many Gti's with AC, was this quiet rare???

Thanks for any help

hey! welcome to the forum

these questions may be better asked or ^^^searched^^^ for in the mk3 section

pretty easy to work on, if you know roughly what to do then, if you need it, with a little help from threads and peeps on here you should be laughing  i'm by no means an amzing mechanic but have found it very easy with said guidance and have managed to do a lot of work myself.

not sure about AC, prob about 40ish mpg.... but do not quote me on that as i have an 8v which can be different..

hope thats some help!

goodluck on the search matey!
Wouldn't be fun if it was easy, but does it have to be this much fun?
