Leak into passenger side, door seal?
« on: 24 November 2009, 13:47 »
Just brought my car up to bristol for the rest of the uni term. About six weeks ago I took out the sound deadening on the passenger side footwell as it was pretty wet, now the floor is dry however just further towards the fire wall the edge of that sound deadening is wet as well however if I reach further up the firewall it is all dry. I have a feeling if any water is coming in its coming from somewhere around the centre console and spreading along that little gulley when it levels off into the floor (no the heater matrix isnt leaking).

Are there any common places it can come through around that area. I have had the rain tray off and it was pretty much clear and the drains are clear. Any other places it can come in.
I'm going to monitor it and see if the water increases(its been garaged so no rain on it). I have checked for rust as it seems it was wet down there for a while but I can't see any at all.

Thanks
Will

ps will put a pic up soon

Thanks Guy.

Went outside this morning to see there is a pool of water under the carpet from last nights heavy rain. It looks like the water was coming from the bit of door seal just before the front corner. It looked like it had come in there and ran down into the lowest bit of the floor i.e. towards the centre console.
Is this common, has anyone any experience of fixing it?

The door seal looks to be ok, its not ripped or perished, just wet around that area. Have looked underneath it and there is no rust.

Thanks
Will

I would suspect the weatherproof (ahem) sheets in the doorcards if the door seal looks okay

Remove the plastic trim cover at the bottom of the door frame and pull back the carpets and sound deadening to reveal the floorpan. Dry the sill, seal and floorplan so everything is dry.

Close the door, and pour a jug of water over the window of the door. Give it a minute, then open the door.

The weather-proofing in the door should ensure that any water running down the window and into the door, drains through the bottom of the door onto the sill. It there's any water resting on the door seal or inside the car, then the weather-proof seal inside the door is at fault.

Follow the guide in the link in the post above to fix it.
