faulty clocks
« on: 09 November 2009, 20:46 »
ive read quite a few mfa problem posts on here but most of them seem to be just mfa and rev counter not working,   on my 85 8v the green dash lights work as do the blue bulb for main beam, the speedo works but none of the other gauges or bulbs work not even the clock shows up its completely blank. allso the rear heated screen switch doesnt work, same goes for the reversing lights.  could all these be conected to the same problem?

checked the fuses, got the heated rear screen sorted, allso check the engine bay and next to the rocker cover earth theres a small plug thts not connected to anything, its got one red n white and one brown wire on it, any ideas what this is for as i couldnt see anywhere for it to plug into?

allso the bonnet earth cable is broke off, does this just attach to one of the two bolts that connect the bonnet to the arm??

sounds like the WUR plug, though the wur is all the way round the front of the engine?  pics?

as for dash sounds like the ign live is missing, there should be a black wire to the ign switch, make sure thats not snapped.

i had this problem when a wire burnt out from the original stereo wiring, I sorted my stereo out, but then no lights or anythin on mfa screen, even though it lit up, If you look from drivers side up under dash next 2 centre console you will see a little black box with v.a.g on it an wires comin out of it,  A wire from your lights switch goes 2 this and then onto original stereo so the stereo would dim when puttin lights on, Check this wire if you can find it, it is situated in haynes wirin manual, i ended up running a new wire from lights 2 this box, and it fixed it,
