Finish on rear bumper
« on: 10 November 2009, 12:46 »
A quick query folks...back bumper has been replaced (first one didn't fit too well) and then resprayed (first spray didn't match).  At first glance all looked well better match and fit but last night I had reason to inspect a bit closer and noticed that the lower edge and below (the bit just above the diffuser) has a rough upper edge and poor paint finish.  Can some one tell me that they're all like this or it's going to have to go back again and be done properly

My rear bumper isn't finished that well. Thats probably a clue to why they made the mk5 one the way they did in the first place (despite it's inherant ugliness). Mine has the paint peeling off at the bottom inside the wheelarch where grit, gravel and water blast it. Considering it's only done 6000 miles it's not very clever and I've never bothered to take it back to VW as they would just claim it was something I'd driven through. Considering it gets mostly used on motorways and dual carriageways rather than farm tracks I think I'd have a hell of a job proving that I hadn't been rallying it somewhere. It was probably started at the PDI if they steam cleaned wax out of that area using a high pressure washer.

Hopefully others will let you know how their's are finished and then you can get your dealer to do a proper job.

The thing about this sort of stuff is the hassle. Getting to the dealer then getting to work, withour car for a day or two etc. - bloody carry on.

Mine has a stone chip caused by the dealer, when it was in the lot must have sprayed up the big chips they are covered in and took a lump out, Only spotted it when I washed it for the first time 2 days later. Thankfully the dealer is getting it fixed.

Only other thing I noticed was lots of little black tar/wax spots which are coming off now as I polish and wax the car.
