Oil Buzzer??
« on: 08 November 2009, 17:41 »
Right, it's been a couple of weeks since i've driven the golf so thought i'd take it for a drive today.

Let the car warm up as usual as i never go over 3k or anywhere near it before the engine and oil is up to temp.
Went for a drive to see the other half, was about 10 miles up the road and all up to temp so I put my foot down, next thing I hear a very loud distorted buzzer.

Luckily I could pull in not far up the road, as I did the noise started to calm down and within 20 seconds had dissapeared.
Was this the oil buzzer going off? as there was no oil light come on in the dash.
I drove back from the g/f's and never got the buzzer noise, but I never went above 60mph.

This is the first time any buzzer has gone off in the car so i'm a little curious to what it is.
The oil on the dipstick is just above the minimum mark, is this buzzer a warning for low oil instead of pressure?

Any ideas?

If the oil level is low, then this could cause low oil pressure when you turn a corner or take a bend at speed. The oil will slop to one side of the sump and may starve the suction pipe of oil, causing a momentary lack of pressure.
OR, it could be a corroded connection on the oil sensor sender unit. If that is damp, then the wiggly amps may not go where VW intended.

If you heard it buzz, but didn't see a light, I'd be testing the low pressure sensor. When you turn the IGN, does the little oil light blink or not?

If the buzzer was going off for 20 seconds - I'd be very concerned. When its just a lowish oil level, as above, its just momentary, it shouldn't buzz for more than  second or two. If its buzzing in a straight line, I'd be checking the oil pressure properly!
