I've has two imported GTI's from new ... saved £1000's and got £500 less at trade in with a VW dealer (the car was 15 months old so the warranty etc. affected the trade - in value which I thought was fair enough)

Never had a problem with warranty work or anything like that - got full VW Assist etc.

My advice is to use the "import" tag as a bargaining tool to get a the best deal, but don't let it put you off the car if it's a nice and tidy one. Just check the spec of the car too -

- it should have the PDI stamped by the foreign garage - usually Germany, Holland or Denmark.  Check the date. & that this matches VIN info.
- Check the VIN NO. here :-  http://igorweb.org/vindec/    -  gives you date of factory manufacture etc...
- Check it has a spacesaver spare wheel and not a puncture repair kit in boot
- Check it has an internal alarm
- Check it has 8 speakers working inside and not four (some Dutch imports have only four)

Good luck with your purchase
