Well just had its jacked up and the front wheel of and to say there is a little play is an understatement.. but at least now i know what the problem is fo sho and can get it sorted! Thanks for all the help guys in this long and tedious thread!!

Right, finding a full drive shaft is prooving to be a right pain in the nads!! so im just gonna do the cv. Im presuming it will be the outer cv that has gone yes?? :grin:

with wheel bareings do the sensible thing, if you suspect one of failing  CHANGE BOTH.   the other will be folling fate shortly.

same goes for CV joints,  if one outer has gone the other outer joint will follow (  unless it's die due to lack of grease from a split boot ) in whitch case change the boot on the other.

imo doing things that way and it saves money and effort
all the VW's have gone bar 1.
