always let the glow plug lights go out before starting and wait perhaps a few seconds after that to give it the best chance of firing it up first time; especially in the colder weather
Unless its been serviced recently then an oil and filter change every 10K will be fine. I also tend to change the fuel filter although its not recommended until every 20K. Up to you really

As per your satan fuel driven MK2 let coolant and oil get up to temperature before giving it the beans
If you have given it some stick make sure the last 1/2 mile home is a gentle cruise to allow the hot oil to circulate. DO NOT turn the engine straight off after giving it a good thrashing as its a sure-fire way to shorten the life-span of the 'ickle turbo
The PD engines are fialy bullet proof - regular servicing and a bit of care and attention will see them live long after their satan fuelled breathern has bit the dust
