i had this on a sh!troen ax, turned out the battery was duff.

fact the display stays on suggests that the wiring is fine, if not it would go out when ign off

yeah it was weird, for the 1st few months we had it the car always cranked over fine, and nothing else failed to work. This is why at first i couldnt figure out why the clock was loosing time. i even swapped the clock for another in and it was the same.
eventually though the car started to need a jump start in the mornings, so we put a new battery in.  This solved the starting problems and as an added bonus the clock was fixed too!

do you know anyone who has a battery you could borrow?  all you want to do is have it sat there overnight so you can check in the morning if the time has been lost. if its just the same with another battery then its something else, if the time is ok you know it is your battery. if that makes sence :)
