Spent 6 hrs today working on the car
« on: 31 October 2009, 21:41 »
Boy is it hard work  Very rewarding in the end though, but I couldnt completely finish as It was getting dark.

I started off with the 2 bucket trick for washing, I used Dodo Juice Born To Be Mild (It's good stuff and smells nice hehe), and I have the wookie mit, its ace. I then dried the car off with Chemical Guiys miracle dryer which worked a treat and just kept on soaking up the water, and then I felt the paint to see if I needed to clay, felt as smooth as a babies bum to me, I never felt any roughness, bumps, gritty bits etc so I passed on the claying (not sure if I should have still done it or not). Went to the polish and for that I used Dodo Juice Prime Time Lite. I then got my Dodo Juice Supernatural Wax and applied 1 layer, this is supposed to be a soft wax ? lol, I'd hate to use a hard wax then. All good, but then I ran out of light so I only have one layer on at the moment. It looks fab so far, Now my car is a couple of weeks old and even with a basic wash it looked good, but after the polish and wax it just gleems now. I'm very happy with the results.

Now onto the tyres and alloys. This is where I was most impressed. I used Dodo Juice Mellow Yellow for the cleaning, this stuff worked a treat and is fab. I then used Dodo Juice Supernatural Polish which brought the alloys to life and protected it with 2 coats of the simply wonderful Jetseal 109. For the tyres I used Meguires High Gloss Tyre Gell.

Exhausts were polished up with the Dodo Juice Supernatural Polish and they now look bling. I love that polish.

Interior done with Meguires Quik Detailer, which although the interior is basically brand spanking new, It added that 'darkness' to it, made it shiney and not greasy and smells great. Again, as i ran out of daylight, I couldnt get the leather seats treated but will do them tomorrow.

All in all I enjoyed myself today, but my arms are killing me.

Just one question for tomorrow. I want to put another coat of wax on and give it a spray on top with my Dodo Juice Red Mist. Should I wash the car first before working on it again ?

let the wax cure before you start with the red mist. i find i get much better results with it using it either on its own, or as a 'top up' product after a weekly wash

Although it's a new car and it shouldn't have had any contaminants yet, I still would have clayed. Lets you remove whatever crap was put on by VW.

Went to the polish and for that I used Dodo Juice Prime Time Lite.
Was it Lime Prime (which you could call a polish I guess), or Lime Prime Lite (which is just a glaze)?

...Supernatural Wax and applied 1 layer...supposed to be a soft wax
Yep. Hard waxes are IMO very difficult to apply properly - like Collinite 476s - very hard but gives brilliant protectoin.

Exhausts were polished up with the Dodo Juice Supernatural Polish and they now look bling. I love that polish.
Tip: When the exhausts are dirty, use a MF cloth and spray it with WD40 before wiping the exhausts - removes the grime and will help with the polish. Will make more sense once you've driven the car for a while without cleaning.

Interior done with Meguires Quik Detailer, which although the interior is basically brand spanking new, It added that 'darkness' to it, made it shiney and not greasy and smells great.

As stated by others, let the wax 'cure' for 24 hours. For me, this means the next layer of wax has to go on the following weekend, so will need another wash. If on the other hand, you had an entire week free and nowhere to go, then yes you could just apply the next layer of wax provided the car was protected overnight. Even a quick rinse and dry is better than nothing.

Let me know how you get on with the Red Mist.

Boy is it hard work  Very rewarding in the end though, but I couldnt completely finish as It was getting dark.
Which is why you should get up earlier!

In all seriousness, I still take it a little slower when detailing to make sure I do it properly. There's no way I could do the interior and exterior thoroughly in one day so I split it into two. I'll usually do the interior one day and the exterior the next day - makes things easier. More often, I'll do the interior on one saturday or sunday, and the exterior the following sat/sun. Just means you can get on with other things.

Now don't forget to dry your mitt properly, and wash your cloths and PIIIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCCCCCCCSSSSSSSSSSSss
