Hi, i recently purchased a VW Golf GTi and the car seems to be chasing revs. Any idea what the problem could be?

its an 8 valve gti, what i mean by chasing revs is that the car should be idling at around 9500 revs but its idling at 11000 revs and everytime you accelerate it revs up gradually therefore takes more petrol.

firstly mate use the search function put in high idle

then check vacuum hoses[ they can look ok but can be perished] check and clean throttle body and isv
check breather hoses and clean all electrical and earth connections then look at temp sensors
hope this helps

If its a 8v 2e then take the tb and isv off, clean it with carb cleaner, it will run smooth after, if it comes back then check piston rings! the oil fumes getting in the breather pypes causes the tb to clog! hope this helps!
