mk1 heater motor

hi. my heater motor has just packed up on my mk1 gti. ive been told that i can take it out from under the bonnet. is this true? i think its a very small gap hence should it be removed from under the dash?

You can take it out from under the bonnet. Its a tight fit but it will come out I can assure you.
