I went for it as I plan to keep the car.

VW dealer quoted me £395, found a similar policy online for about £200, told the stealer and they offered me their policy for £190. No brainer really.

Yeah, I found that the policy my dealer was offering was a lot better than the internet based companies (remember the big print giveth but the small print taketh away) but used the internet deals to get a better deal with the stealers.

They make better margins on the insurance / finance products than the cars so its well worth haggling hard on these.

Do any of you guys have GAP insurance...?

Purchased a year 2007 MkV GTi just 7 weeks ago and have every intention of keeping it for at least a 4 year period, if not longer.

Done a few internet searches with prices of about £230 for back to invoice value cover...sounds like a good deal...if, god forbid, my beloved GTi was written off in say 3 years time.

Can anyone recommend a reputable insurer...?  Any positive or negative experiences out there...?

All advice greatly appreciated.
Billy

Hi mate, like the name

I had GAP insurance when i purchased my MR2. The cover lasted 2 years. I smashed up my MR2 on the 23rd Month of the 24 month cover. I got £8k back from my insurance company for my car (as that was market value) and then £4k from the GAP mob. I got the £12k i paid for that car 23 months ago. My loan for the personal loan balance is sitting at £5k at the moment and I have a £12k car (as below).

So in my experience YES its fan-fooking-tastic

Many thanks to all who replied/commented.

Took out a policy at click4gap.co.uk for a 4 year period at a cost of £230...that's just over £1 per week...cheap at half the price for the piece of mind.
