Golf Troubles.
« on: 31 August 2009, 06:46 »
Hey so I've been looking around lately to buy myself a golf.
Now, the issue isnt money to be exact its more along the lines of...
theres a 1.8CL with a better deal than the 2.0GL thats ive been looking at. i know this is a GTI forum but you guys are the best to come to.
my main issue is the fact the 1.8 only has about 89hp which is nothing and quite upsetting really and the 2.0l GL has 113 i beleive ?
but the GL is just in bad shape and isnt really worth spending the money on. but i dont want to settle for 89hp.
I live in nova scotia and been looking for myself a cheap enough mk3 gti but no luck has come my way. the only GTI for sale both numbers were out of order and the ad had no email address. so im stuck going down to either of the two cars.
I know i must sound like a moron ranting on about 1.8 and 2.0, but there is a difference.
Please help, with hopefully my answer to my troubles.
Thanks
Ross

Hi, welcome to the site. The 2.0L will have more torque.

you've answered your own question already mate

"GL is just in bad shape and isnt really worth spending the money on"

If the GL's nackered its probably putting out less power than the well looked after CL.

yeah i knew the GL has more torque its got the extra horse too.
the main thing with the GL is the body, it just means forkin out more money to get that fixed too.
I think i will be going with the 1.8 for now but might get a good resale value to a friend of mine after winter
whom of which has pointed out a GTI VR6 to me, so will without a doubt aim for that !
Thanks guys

Welcome, and thanks for coming to the site for advice, it's what we are here for :)

Worth noting I have a 1.8 GL and it's the 90BHP model, tbh, yes it's not 115 like the GTI 8v, and the VR6s are roughly 170, but tbh, it's a decent enough car, it'll get you where you wanna go, not as quick as it's bigger brothers, but it still will
